You can compare supermarket in order to get the best deals for almost anything. People compare supermarket for things such as car insurance, pet insurance, van and motorbike insurance comparisons too. However, we will be looking at how you can compare supermarket for gas and electricity comparisons in order to get the best deals.

It is a good idea to compare supermarket for gas and electricity prices as things change quite often. OFGEM the energy regulator has announced an overhaul of the energy market rules that will do away with many of the tariffs currently available as well as an attempt to make the pricing more simple. This effectively means that the best tariffs, especially low cost fixed rates are filling up quickly and once they are filled suppliers will take them off. It is therefore good from a financial perspective to compare supermarket now, particularly if you are looking to switch as prices are likely to start to rise by late summer.

Compare supermarket is one way to reduce gas and electricity prices by enabling people to get the cheapest quote possible. However, who you use and the method of payment can also influence the size of your bills. Here are a few bits of advice..

· Don`t automatically think that dual fuel is always the cheapest. Yes, normally duel fuel ( where you get gas and electricity from the same supplier) is cheaper, however this is not always the case. When you compare you should compare the cost of the cheapest dual fuel supplier with separate cheap gas and cheap electricity suppliers.
· You should switch to monthly direct debit whereby you pay via fixed monthly direct debit payments, this will save you around 5-10%
· You should do a meter reading every time you receive a bill. You should not rely on your energy suppliers estimate as this is often way out.
· Get £1000s of grants. There are a wide range of grants available for improving home heating and insulation, check this out at the Energy Saving Trust`s Energy grant search.
· Switch to your energy suppliers internet tariff as it will save you up to 10% over the standard tariff. The only difference will be that you will get your bills e-mailed instead.
· Lastly and very importantly use less energy. With a few money- saving techniques it is possible to slash bills by hundreds of pounds a year. Here are a few ideas. 1) Insulate your home, 2)Invest in energy saving lightbulbs, 3)Don`t leave appliances on standby, 4)Consider double glazing, 5) Draft proofing and lastly take a shower and not a bath.
